This Easter, we’re bursting with things to see, make and explore including the launch of our major new SAXONS exhibition opening with a big Family Opening Day on 28 March. The first week of the holidays is packed with Easter-themed craft and science family fun, while the second week takes inspiration from the Saxons, with Saxon-themed crafts linked to the new exhibition. Plus don’t forget to play, learn and explore in the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery.

 

The SAXONS 

28 March – 1 November 2026

The SAXONS is a major new exhibition opening on Saturday 28 March at Discover Bucks Museum bringing early medieval Buckinghamshire to life with real artefacts, interactive displays, and digital storytelling designed for visitors of all ages.

Saxons Opening Day

Saturday 28 March, 10am – 5pm

Step into the world of the Saxons and celebrate the opening of our new SAXON exhibition with a vibrant day of living history, storytelling and discovery. Meet Saxon warriors and skilled craftspeople as they bring the past to life through authentic dress, demonstrations and fascinating insights into everyday life over 1,000 years ago. With activities for all ages, it’s the perfect way to experience history up close.

Monday 30 March – Hopping Lambs and Jumping Rabbits

Learn how to make a moving Easter-themed picture to take home

£3.50 per child

Tuesday 31 March & Wednesday 1 April – Eggcellent Science

How do you make a bouncy egg? Can an egg survive being catapulted? Find out the answers to these questions and more with our Easter science workshop as we delve deep into egg-related science with fun, hands-on experiments.

Please note: our science workshops can get messy. Aprons will be provided but old clothes are recommended.

Real eggs will be used in this workshop: please let us know of any egg allergies prior to booking so that we can advise.

£7.00 per child plus 1 free adult/ £4 per additional adult

Timings: Hour-long led sessions at 10.15am – 11.15am, 12pm – 1pm & 2pm – 3pm. Please arrive five minutes before your session to ensure a prompt start!

Thursday 2 April – Easter Bunnies

Decorate a wooden easter bunny and create a home for it using a variety of different materials. What will you create?

£5 per participant.

Good Friday 3 April – Hatching Eggs

Make a pop-up jack-in-a-box egg to take home! What will hatch from YOUR egg? (This craft is inspired by our new Sew Dainty exhibition: upgrade your craft ticket to explore it for yourself!)

Easter Monday 6 April – Eggcellent Egg Hunters
Hunt for easter eggs in one of the oldest buildings in Aylesbury: explore our museum, complete Easter challenges and earn yourself a sweet reward.
£9 per child (includes up to 2 adults). Tickets include entry to our main museum including The SAXONS exhibition.
Timings: 10.30am – 11.30am, 11.30am – 12.30pm, 12.30pm – 1.30pm & 1.30pm – 2.30pm

Wednesday 8 April – Saxon Saucer Brooches

Dress like a Saxon by making yourself a Saxon saucer brooch take home. This craft is inspired by our new Saxons exhibition: upgrade your craft ticket to explore it for yourself and see our Saxon costumes!

Thursday 9 April – Saxon Carvings

Try your hand at carving like a Saxon with our soap-carving workshop: will you make a runic message, a celtic knot pattern or a Grotesque? Please note: the carving for this workshop will be done with wooden and plastic tools: no blades will be used. This craft is inspired by our new Saxons exhibition: upgrade your craft ticket to explore it for yourself!

£4 per participant

Friday 10 April – Saxon Clay

ROALD DAHL CHILDREN’S GALLERY

Open every day over the Easter holiday – 28 March – 15 April

Come and discover the famous Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery, a space bursting with interactive displays and engaging activities inspired by Roald Dahl’s wonderful stories that encourage learning through play. Children can step inside the Giant Peach, explore sound with the BFG and crawl through Fantastic Mr. Fox’s tunnel. They can appear in their own drawings on TV and even freeze their own shadows! Come along and explore for yourselves.
