We’ll be exploring the world of Anglo-Saxon myths and legends with a week of mythical and magical crafts: get ready for dragons, wizards and giants this May half term! inspired by The SAXONS exhibition.

 

Monday 25 May: Illuminated Book Boxes

Decorate a personalized book box to take home, inspired by Anglo-Saxon illuminated manuscripts. You can even make up your own magical story to keep inside!

Timings: 10.00am – 2.30pm

Cost: £4.00

Suitable for ages 4-11 (younger children welcome but will need some support with their craft)

Tuesday 26 May: Dragon Marionettes

Learn how to make a fire-breathing dragon marionette to take home.

Timings: 10.00am – 2.30pm

Wednesday 27 May: Merlin’s Potion Jars

Make a magical potion jar to take home. Please note: this activity involves using cotton wool and coloured water. Old clothes are recommended.

Thursday 28 May: Nature Sprites

Make a Anglo-Saxon nature sprite puppet out of clay. Please note: this activity involves using clay. Old clothes are recommended.

Friday 29 May: Spy Craft! With Mark Creasy

Become a spy with local author Mark Creasy, who’ll be leading super-secret code-breaking and cipher activities this half term. Learn all about the inspiration behind his book Simon Smith, Schoolboy Spy, hear extracts from the book and have the chance to purchase your very own signed, personalized copy!

Timings: 10.30am- 11.30am & 1pm – 2pm

Cost: £3

This activity is recommended for children aged 5-11. Younger children are welcome but will need some help with their code.

ROALD DAHL CHILDREN’S GALLERY

Open every day over May Half Term, 23 – 31 May.

Come and discover the famous Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery, a space bursting with interactive displays and engaging activities inspired by Roald Dahl’s wonderful stories that encourage learning through play. Children can step inside the Giant Peach, explore sound with the BFG and crawl through Fantastic Mr. Fox’s tunnel. They can appear in their own drawings on TV and even freeze their own shadows! Come along and explore for yourselves.
