This Long-Eared Owl is a ceramic sculpture by Lorraine Izon who was our Muir Trust Artist in Residence in 2015. Lorraine loved nature and wildlife and was inspired by our Nature Detectives exhibition, making sculptures and prints of many of the birds and animals on display. The sculptures are characterized by her stylized patterns of decoration which are painstakingly carved into her handmade figures and then glazed.

Only 3 days left to go until the applications for this year’s Muir Trust 2024 Residency closes on Friday 5 January 2024. If you are an established portrait artist who is up for the challenge, apply now here: www.discoverbucksmuseum.org/collections/muir-trust-residency/

There are five different owls that may be seen in Bucks – tawny, barn, small, short-eared and long-eared. They often hunt at night but can sometimes be seen during the day. I love seeing or hearing an owl – have you been lucky enough to see one recently?
