Join us this October half term for a variety of fun activities for families to enjoy.

This October half term we will have a fun filled week of arts and crafts topped off with a spooky family Halloween day on Saturday 2 November. Join us for different activities each day from Monday to Saturday. 

We’ll be getting into the Halloween spirit with a range of activities from Modroc mummies to spooky science experiments. We’ll also be getting ready for Diwali with our family craft workshop to celebrate the Festival of Lights. Finally, we’ll be rounding off the week with our Spooktacular Saturday Family Day: join us for Halloween storytelling with The Red Phoenix Terrie Howey and a range of family crafts. Don’t forget to your Halloween costume- all costume wearers will get a free museum trail!

 

Monday 28 October – Modroc Mummies

Learn how to make your very own mummy this Halloween! From removing the insides to the final wrapping of bandages, we’ll be following the step-by-step practises of the Ancient Egyptians, while also getting an up-close look at our museum’s very own mummified creatures.

This workshop may get messy so old clothes are recommended.

£4 per participant.

Timings: Drop in anytime between 10am – 3pm

Suitable for ages 5+ (younger children welcome but may need some help with their craft).

Tuesday 29 October – Spooky Science

Join us for some spooky science this half term.

Learn how to make a levitating ghost, mix your own bubbling potion, learn how dragon’s toothpaste is made and more!

This workshop may get messy so old clothes are recommended.

£5 per participant.

Timings: Booked slots 10.30am-11.30am, 12.30pm-1.30pm or 2.30pm-3.30pm

Wednesday 30 October – Let’s Celebrate: Diwali Diyas

Make and decorate a clay diya lamp to take home as we get ready for the Festival of Light.
All are welcome!

Old clothes are recommended for this workshop.

Friday 1 November – Young Creatives: Halloween Writing

Join us for an especially spooky writing workshop in which we’ll be looking at how to create our own scary characters

All abilities are welcome.
Please note that adults are required to supervise participants under 12. Adults with children aged 12 and over do not need to remain in the workshop room but must remain on site during this workshop.

£5 per participant.

Timings: Booked slot 11am – 12pm

Friday 1 November – Autumn Collage

Use recycled materials, natural materials, paint and crayons to make your very own autumn themed collage to take home!

£3 per participant.

Saturday 2 November – Spooky Stories

Join us for spooky Halloween storytelling with Terrie Howey, The Red Phoenix: get ready for ghosts, ghouls and things that go bump in the night!

Each story session lasts approximately 20 minutes: all ages are welcome!

We’ll also have free drop in crafts available from 10.00am-3.00pm- no need to book, just turn up!

(P.S Don’t forget to wear your Halloween costume for a free Discovery Duck museum trail)

Kid’s Lunchboxes

Children (and parents/carers) loved the Kid’s lunchboxes over the summer so we’re bringing them back for October Half-term. Children will be able to pick and mix from a selection of items to make up their very own lunch box. Choose and purchase from our museum café, and look out for our Halloween sweet treats and drinks!
